After the fraudulent 26 October 2024 elections, Georgia's governing, pro-Russian Georgian Dream party renounced Euro-integration, sparking a fair, peaceful, and continuous citizens' protest. The protest has now lasted for more than five months. When Georgian Dream saw that beatings, the torture of 500 people, and the arrest of political prisoners only made the protest fiercer, it began fining people for blocking streets.
We used to cover protesters' fines and managed to cover approximately 10% of fines. But public opinion has shifted away from covering these fines as the money goes directly to the government. Considering scarce financial resources, we decided to start funding other protest-related needs.
Currently, together with other funds and private individuals, we focus on covering financial needs of Georgia's political prisoners. We are helping approximately 25 out of more than 100 of political prisoners.
In practice, the Freedom Fund is a set of foreign accounts registered with several online payment systems; the illegitimate government of Georgia does not exercise control over these funds.
The fund is founded by Davit Jincharadze, a founding member of Freedom Square. You can contact him at djincharadze@freedomsquare.ge.
